Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Process Management

  • Review and approve journal entries, monthly reconciliations, and trial balance prepared by the team to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Collaborate with financial reporting team and business unit leaders to review financial results, identify areas for improvement, and support strategic decision-making. Act as a trusted advisor to help them understand the financial implications of their operational choices.
  • Ensure the integrity of data used in the ERP and reports, working closely with the accounting team to confirm that all intercompany transactions and foreign currency translations are correctly accounted for and reported.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Lead and oversee the company's global financial compliance, ensuring all international entities adhere to the applicable accounting standards, including Accounting Standards of the Parent Entity (ASPE) and any other local statutory requirements. This involves staying current with changes in accounting standards and proactively communicating their impact on the business.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia and/or any other region where the department has Commercial activity.

Auditing

  • Partner with Finance leads and act as the primary liaison for external audits, managing the audit process for all international subsidiaries. Coordinate with external auditors to provide necessary information and ensure a smooth, efficient audit process.

Strategic Support

  • Provide financial insights, data analysis, and strategic support to the Corporate and Commercial leadership teams for informed decision-making.
  • Partner with the Commercial teams and translate complex financial information into clear, actionable business recommendations, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Develop, recommend, and monitor key financial and operational benchmarks that will be used to measure the business unit's performance and ensure alignment with the company’s overall financial objectives.

Process Improvement

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing financial processes and reporting structures for better efficiency and accuracy.
  • Continuously assess and strengthen the company's internal control environment to mitigate financial risks across all international operations.

Leadership/Management Support

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing international team of accounting professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative environment and provide constructive and timely feedback to employees to advance their professional growth. This includes coaching, conducting regular one-on-one meetings and informal check-ins to discuss progress, set clear goals, and address any challenges.
  • Partner with HR to recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff in the department.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. A CPA designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in accounting and finance, with demonstrated experience in change management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, V-lookups) and other standard office software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills, and the ability to travel globally with a valid passport.

Working Conditions

This position typically operates in a professional office environment. Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, work outside of regular office hours and occasional travel will be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and software.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting and using a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • The ability to use hands to manage and control a keyboard and mouse.
  • The ability to understand and communicate clearly with others through speaking, listening, or writing.
  • The ability to move around the office to attend meetings or retrieve documents.
